Yes, I'm a guy and I take baths...the importance of relaxation

I am not afraid to admit it...I like to take baths every once in a while. There is nothing like a relaxing in a warm bath after a long day. Sitting there alone with no phone alerts going off, no kids asking for something, and nothing to do but just relax is a great feeling.

In this fast paced world it seems like we are always on some deadline. My poor wife is constantly on the move. She comes to work on in them morning, leaves to take a kid to practice, comes back to work, goes to pick up that kid and drop off another one. Then after work she is at ball games until 9 in the evening. Needless to say, my family can seem kind of hectic at times.

Coping with the stress of a life with a deadline always approaching is really important. It is vital that you schedule in some relaxation time. It is important in all three levels of your overall health.

1. Physically, you body needs time to rejuvenate. This is kind of a no-brainer. If your body is always under stress then you will eventually suffer from adrenal fatigue. Your adrenal glands create cortisol which is your stress hormone. It can increase blood pressure and heart rate to make sure that you body is ready to deal with those "fight or flight" issues that come up in life. However, when we are always amped up and under stress the adrenal glands eventually say, "Enough already, I can't keep up!" This is when fatigue, weight loss, body aches, loss of hair, and blood pressure issues show up.

Give your body a break by taking some leisure time. Take a bath! Schedule some time that is just for you. Or maybe schedule some time with a friend...whatever causes the biggest sense of relaxation.

2. Emotionally, you need to have time to process the daily grind and de-stress. Don't fall into the trap of overanalyzing all your day's problems during your "me" time. This is a time for you to devote to improving you. When you take time to relax you won't be so likely to overreact when something bad happens in life, as it surely will.

3. Spiritually, relaxation can be coupled with prayer and giving thanks for the good in your life. When things seem really bad, spend a few minutes in prayer. It's even better if you can go to your church and just sit there in silence. It if funny, but God has a way of speaking to you in absolute silence. Nurture this relationship and you will notice a feeling of wellbeing and relaxation that is unmatched. Like Jesus said, "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

So take a bath and relax! Add some bath
